Chinese appliance maker Haier plans to test market an innovative new washing machine that uses no detergents here in France in September. The machine, baptised the WasH2O, will rely exclusively on water, heat, ions and steam to sterilise the fabrics. A total of 1000 machines will be put on trial here between September and December, priced at 699 euros.
The hybrid prototypes (you can use them with detergents as well) will have a capacity of 6 kilos, but if the test proves successful, Haier will commercialise a 10-kilo version within a few years. If the idea of giving up the smell of freshly laundered linens is too upsetting, Haier will also be selling perfumed tablets to compensate.
